Aging Well: End of Life Decision-Making – The Good, The Bad and The Future

There are a number of initiatives aimed at educating and encouraging Americans to engage in advanced care planning, yet most of these programs fail to meet their stated goals. In this presentation we will explore the history behind these programs, their successes, barriers and future.

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL ATTENDEES PRIOR TO THE EVENT. Check in will begin 15 minutes prior to the program beginning.  Due to video filming, late attendees will be asked to view the presentation in the Green Room.


Rebecca Lunstroth, MA, JD

Rebecca Lunstroth is an Assistant Professor in Family Medicine and the Associate Director of the McGovern Center for Humanities and Ethics.   She directs the professionalism and ethics longitudinal theme and Jurisprudence course for the Medical School and co-directs the Graduate School’s Ethics of Biomedical Sciences course. Ms. Lunstroth is Chair of one of UT’s IRBs and is a member of the Memorial Hermann ethics committee where she provides clinical ethics consultations.  She also runs a consulting practice that aims to transform both healthcare providers and institutions.

Rebecca frequently lectures on the United States health care system, justice, and the legal and ethical issues in health care. Her research interests span from reproductive health to the rightful place of personal responsibility in medicine.

Rebecca received a Masters in Medical Humanities from UTMB in December, 2006.  Her master’s thesis was about the demise of employer-based health insurance.   In 1988, she was awarded a J.D. from South Texas College of Law and she completed her undergraduate studies at Indiana University where she majored in economics.

Prior to joining UT, Rebecca spent 14 years with Shell Oil in Human Resource Management, Operations and Health and Safely.
