Lunch and Learn: A Cancer Diagnosis

March 28 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

A cancer diagnosis brings new challenges to finding balance in life.  One’s expectations may be shaken in trying to find a new “normal,” with the body and brain giving mixed messages.  Nurse Navigator Karen Davin from the Bobetta Lindig Breast Center, MD Anderson at Memorial Hermann Memorial City, will explore some of these messages, and offer suggestions for coping and trusting your intuition.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Karen Davin is a Certified Breast Oncology Nurse Navigator with The University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center.  Karen, a 25 year veteran in the care of cancer patients, is available to guide patients from the point when a suspicious finding is discovered, through necessary diagnosis and treatment within the cancer care system.

Karen received her Nursing Diploma in Ireland, earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University, a Masters degree in Public Health from Creighton Medical School, followed by a Graduate Certificate in Health Care Ethics from the Center for Health Policy and Ethics at Creighton University.

Karen is available to meet patients with suspicious findings, help facilitate timely diagnostic procedures, and expedite appointments with Breast Fellowship Trained Surgeons. In addition, Karen can provide access to psychosocial support services, such as support groups, connect patients with trained survivor volunteers, and direct appropriate patients to a Certified Genetic Counselor.

For more information about Nurse Navigation, please contact Karen Davin either by phone at 713.242.3395 or by email at kdavin@mdanderson.org
